At this time of the year, approaching the Holidays, every food blog is doing the last-minute gift list. I wanted to do something different.
You see, in our family, only kids get presents and us adult spend time assembling the latest Lego or Meccano set, that our kids got from their grandparents. To give you a visual: kids open their bags, take out the presents and hand it to Papa, so he could assemble it. That’s Papa’s gift! While Mama is cooking up a storm in the kitchen while entertaining the guests and filling up their drinks. That’s Mama’s gift!
I am not complaining, quite the contrary. I enjoy the Holidays. Christmas is one of my favorite periods of the year! Decorating the Christmas tree, making cookies for Santa Clause and shopping on Amazon after a long workday. This is how the Holidays should be! I never knew any other way since I became a mother of 3 beautiful kids!
But what I adore the most is the smile on my kids’ faces when on Christmas morning they see that Santa Clause came and ate his cookie and drank his milk! I am lucky that my kids are still young and still find this period of the year magical! So for us, Christmas is all about the kids. Their smiles and the glow in their eyes are Papa’s and Mama’s most amazing gifts!
So, while we might not give each other Christmas gifts, there are plenty of other occasions to treat ourselves to our favorite toys 🙂 Here a sample of my favorite cooking tools and gadgets that I have collected throughout the years.
I got this for my last birthday, together with the little bird. I love it! It is a deep dish, so I can add as many fruits as I want, and also I can use it for meat and potato pie. I had other pie dishes in my cupboards but not like this one. Best quality I have ever seen. Easy to wash and, combined with the little bird, none of my pie crusts got soggy ever again ;)!
This little bird is adorable and very practical. The way it works, it allows the steam to escape the inside of the pie while baking in the oven. The crust stays nice and crispy. Also, it prevents the crush from collapsing on top of the filling. I’ve never had any soggy pie crusts since I started using this little birdie.
This hand blender is something that I use every second day! I had another one before and it broke on me after not even 1 year of usage. I have had this one for the last 3 years, and my only complaint is that I should have bought it before. You will see that I use it in some of my recipes. It’s a tool that every cook should have! It is perfect for making smoothies, sauces, and whipping cream.
This was my first birthday gift after the birth of our first daughter. This machine stands on my countertop and I use it every week. I’ve had this stand mixer for 11 years. I use it for meat grinding, kneading my homemade pizza dough and for all the cakes I have made throughout the years! With all the usage this mixer got, I have the deepest respect for the durability of this machine! Because I’ve never had any trouble with it, I give it my wholehearted five-star rating!
This little tool can help you in so many occasions. Whether you need to shred Parmesano cheese on your favorite pasta, grate some garlic into a Caesar salad or get the zest of an orange for a Portuguese cake, this is the tool! So many useful functions for an incredibly low price.
I bought 4 of them when they got on sale! One for my mom, one for a friend and two for me! It is very practical. I drink water and lemon constantly during the day, and I don’t want to take out the big juicer every time. I just want a little zing of lemon in my water, not lemonade! I use it also when I just want a splash of lemon juice on my green salad at lunch! I use this kitchen gadget every day.
