Cod liver is packed with vitamin A and D. These vitamins are essentials for good cognitive performance. It helps to maintain good brain function as we grow older. It also helps to reduce anxiety and locomotor skills. Also since cod liver is usually maintained into their own oil it is a source of great omega-3 fatty acids, which scientist has discovered a group of molecules that have anti-inflammatory properties. You can make paté with it, but my favorite is this cod salad liver. My father-in-law from Russia introduced it to me years ago, but recently I made a little change to it and now everybody enjoys it!

How to make a cod liver salad

First thing you need to boiled eggs. Make sure they are hard boiled. Secondly, chopped the green onions and the fresh dill finely. Keep aside. When the eggs have cooled off, peel the shells and cut them into small pieces. Place the piece into a salad bowl. Add the chopped onions and the fresh dill. Finally open the cod liver can and pour the whole can into the eggs, onions and dills mixture. With a fork gently mix all the ingredients. If you have a bigger piece of cod liver just use the fork to reduce their size. You can serve this salad as is or with a piece of bread or crackers. You do not need any salt because usually, the cod liver from the can is salty enough. Store it into a closed container in the fridge up to 4 days. If you can:)! Bon appétit!

Hi, should I still add the whole can even if its quite oily?

    • Melanie Dompierre (a) September 1, 2022 at 1:36 pm Reply

Usually, I do use the whole can. Or you can keep the liver (the meat) and drain off a little bit of the excess oil.
      I hope this help.

Thank you for reading my blog:)
