Fall Pear Salad

What is the best tasting pear

To my opinion, the best tasting pear is the one you can find in those little snack can of fruits salads. Do you remember? My mom used to pack one in my lunch for school. In those little cans, you could find the best pear ever! They are soft, not too grainy in the mouth, they have plenty of juice and most importantly they are sweet!

Yes, it is the Bartlett! You can find this type of pear in any grocery store. She has light yellow skin, somewhat soft to the touch. If you want to make sure she will be sweet. Try to look for a pear that has a little reddish spot on it. One pear producer told me when you find that it is because she had enough time to mature in the tree under the warmth of the sun. Therefore she had plenty of time to develop her sweety side!

Best way to make a salad for back to school lunch

The main idea to make a great salad when your kids will go back to school is don’t mix the salad dressing with the salad yet! If you do this your kids will have a very, how can I say this… sloppy salad when lunchtime comes. The best way is to do the following, into a large bowl, put the pear at the bottom of the bowl, then the onions, the dry cranberries and on top of it place the lettuce leaves. If you do it this way you are sure that the juices of the vegetables will not welt the lettuce. Also, inside a smaller container place the salad dressing. So when comes to lunch your kids will have to just add a little bit of salad dressing on it and mix and eat a fresh and crisp salad!

How to make a Fall Pear Salad

First, start by the salad dressing. Into a small container, pour the oil, the lemon juice, the apple cider vinegar. Secondly, seasoned the dressing with the ground pepper, salt and add the feta cheese. Mix carefully with a fork and set aside.

Now it is time the salad assembly. First, wash the salad carefully and place the leaves into a large bowl. Then, sliced finely a small red onion and sliced in a thicker size the pear. Place these last two-ingredient onto the lettuce. At this point, if you want you can add the dry cranberries, they add a nice tangy note to the salad. Pour some of the salad dressing onto the vegetables and mix just before serving. This recipe is a great and easy lunch idea or can be served with the pork à l’orange from my previous posts. Bonne appétit!
